Tell me how you’d check that the brakes are working before starting a journey ?
Check that the handbrake holds the vehicle on a hill
Press the brake pedal several times while stationary
Press the Brake and Handbrake at the same time
The brake pedal feels firm not spongy or slack
ANSWER
BRAKES SHOULD NOT FEEL SPONGY OR SLACK
Brakes should be tested as you set off.
The vehicle should not pull to one side.
TIP
The handbrake does not confirm that the footbrake is working correctly
Checking the pedal while stationary is not enough. You also need to test the brakes as you set off, rather than travelling a distance before checking that they work.
